The Deterritorialized Church will create an installation in a vacant lot in New York. The lot will be open to the public for one month, offering pedestrians the opportunity to explore a previously unnoticed or inaccessible unit of the landscape. The installation will include the construction of a structure and signage based on the reconfiguration of on-site materials, crafted by a community of artists and volunteers. The geographical and economic couplings that create these spaces will be examined in depth.

The first public experiment, on June 5, 1783, demonstrated to an assembly of the local nobility of Annonay how a balloon some 35 feet in diameter could rise in 10 minutes to a height of well over a mile. The central scientific institution in France, the Academy of Sciences, invited the Montgolfier brothers to Paris to repeat their experiment. On September 19, 1783 the Aerostat Reveillon was flown with the first living beings in a basket attached to the balloon: a sheep, called Montauciel (Climb-to-the-sky), a duck and a rooster. This demonstration was performed before a huge crowd at the royal palace in Versailles, before Louis XVI of France and Queen Marie Antoinette.  The flight lasted approximately eight minutes, covered two miles, and obtained an altitude of about 1,500 feet.

Even during the day you can hear these spirit voices, and often you seem to hear music from many instruments - especially drums - and the clash of weapons. Because of all this, groups of travelers make a point of sticking close together. Before they go to sleep they put up a sign pointing in the direction in which they want to travel. And they hang little bells round the necks of all their animals, so that by listening to the sound they can stop them from straying off the road.
